The Communist Party of India (Marxists) staged a protest demonstration here demanding the government’s intervention in seeking the release of the arrested fishermen by Sri Lanka.

Staging a demonstration here at the head post office, the party cadres led by CPI(M) MLA for Keezhvelur Nagai Maali condemned the alleged inaction of State and Union governments in the issue.

Calling for their immediate intervention, the party demanded that pressure be built upon Sri Lanka for the release of 210 fishermen and 70 fibre boats held in Sri Lanka. V. Marimuthu, former MLA, and CPI(M) district Secretary A.V. Murugayyan were present.
