The territorial administration on Friday told industrial houses, firms, restaurants, eateries and construction companies to register with the Labour Department.

G. Srinivas, Commissioner, Labour, in a statement said that as per the Inter-State Migrant Workers (Regulation of Employment & Conditions of Service) Act, it was mandatory for the establishments to register themselves with the labour offices concerned.

It would enable the department to ensure the rights and benefits of migrant workers in the Puducherry, Karaikal, Mahe and Yanam regions.

In Puducherry, they should register with the Deputy Commissioner of Labour office.

D. Panneerselvam, Labour Officer, Enforcement, said that the government would take legal action against the establishments if they employed migrant workers without the Labour Department’s permission.
