NAMAKKAL: The District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum, Namakkal, has directed a private tiles company to pay Rs. 50,000 as compensation to a consumer for the mental agony and loss caused to her due to unfair trade practices and deficiency in service.
According to N.S. Hidhayathulla, advocate for the complainant, N. Jagadeswari of Namakkal, the forum had also directed the company to refund the price paid by the complainant for the tiles and to take back the goods. The complainant placed an order to the company to supply marbonite tiles and paid Rs. 84,816. But the company and its authorised stockist had supplied mixed quantities of marbonite and porcelano tiles. It was said that the porcelano tiles were said to be inferior in quality.
Discovering the unfair trade practice, she asked the firm to tack back the goods and refund the money. As it refused, she filed a case before the forum seeking a compensation of Rs. 3 lakhs, besides requesting for refund. But the firm maintained that it did not supply any inferior quality tiles. As the complainant did not like the design chosen by her she wanted to return the materials. After hearing the arguments, the forum directed the company to pay Rs. 50,000, refund the price paid by the consumer and tack back the tiles.
