CHENNAI: Officials of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption arrested a Firka surveyor of the Ambattur Municipality on charges of taking bribe from a petitioner.

According to sources in the agency, Gopalakrishnan of Ayyappanthangal approached the Firka surveyor, Ramamurthy, for issue of patta for agricultural land owned by his father at Morai in Avadi. The official demanded Rs.1,500.

Mr.Gopalakrishnan lodged a complaint with the DVAC, following which a case was registered.

A special team led by Deputy Superintendents of Police M.B.N.Natarajan and S.Thirunavukkarasu was formed to investigate the complaint.

It laid a trap and arrested Ramamurthy after he received the bribe money, the sources said.
