The district police claimed to have recovered a country firearm and six country bombs which were planned to be used by the accused, who burgled the Anto Alukkas jewellery showroom here.
Superintendent of Police V. Balakrishnan disclosed this information to the media persons on Thursday soon after sending back the three suspects arrested in connection with the case, who were in 10-day police custody for questioning, to the judicial custody once again.
“The suspects admitted during the interrogation that they, along with the other five accused who are still at large, have first planned robbery by scaring the staff using country weapons but eventually changed it to burglary on February 21 as they could not get enough ‘opportunities' to carry out their plan on the preceding days,” he said.
According to Mr. Balakrishnan, the country firearm and the bombs concealed beneath the ground in a building under construction behind the Alukkas showroom, have been recovered on March 13.
The detailed questioning of the three arrested – Zia-ul-Sheik, Mir Ali Raju, and Hakkim-ul-Sheik – after obtaining them to police custody on March 12, said to have revealed the details of the arms seized.
