He fell down from the second floor during a demonstration

ARIYALUR: Kannan (27), a new recruit of Fire and Rescue Services department, reportedly sustained grievous head and spine injuries and a fracture on the left leg on Tuesday, after he fell from the second floor of the Collectorate building, during a demonstration on rescue operation at times of natural disaster.

The rope with which the new recruit Kannan, who was appointed earlier this month, was lowered from the terrace of the three-storey building snapped during the course of the demonstration.

Kannan was rushed to the Ariyalur Government Hospital and thereafter referred to the Thanjavur Medical College Hospital.

The incident took place within minutes of the commencement of the exercise by the Perambalur-based 15-member team of the Fire and Rescue Services department, soon after the Ariyalur Collector T. Abraham inaugurated the 108 emergency ambulance service.
