Licences of illegally run units will be cancelled soon, say Police
All the explosives warehouses and cracker manufacturing units in the district were inspected by the police on Saturday.
Superintendent of Police P. Kannammal headed the drive in which 21 explosives warehouses and 23 fire cracker shops were inspected. Deputy Superintendent of Police, Crime Records Bureau, K. Parameshwaran and a special team conducted the inspection. During the drive, the police arrested three persons on the charge of illegal manufacturing of fireworks.
The police identified an illegal cracker unit at Thekadu area in Ayilpatti Police Station limit. Inquiry revealed that it was run by Marimuthu and Ilayaperumal of that locality without any records. A case was registered against the two, following which they were arrested.
While inspecting an explosives warehouse owned by Rajendran at Moolapallipatti in Namagiripettai Police Station limit, they found that he did not have proper records to run the warehouse. He was arrested for handling explosives under unsafe conditions. In the inspection at Tiruchengode Rural Police limits, the team found a number of detonators stored in a warehouse. The SP inspected an explosives godown at Punjaiedayar in Paramathi Velur taluk. She said that three of the explosives warehouses that had licences were found defunct. “The licences will soon be cancelled. The police will continue monitoring the units ” Ms. Kannammal added.
