A sum of Rs.1.27 lakh was collected as fine from ticketless travellers in government corporation buses in Salem and Dharmapuri divisions in January.

In a release, V. Ganesan, Managing Director of Tamil Nadu Transport Corporation (Salem) said that surprise checks were conducted and 757 persons in Salem and 308 persons in Dharmapuri divisions were found to be travelling without tickets. He warned that action would be initiated under the Motor Vehicles Act, if found to be travelling without tickets.
