SALEM: Members of the Tamil Nadu Revenue Officials Association observed a fast here on Wednesday urging the State Government to fill up all the vacant posts in the revenue department.

Officials in the department were overburdened as a large number of posts remained vacant for the past several years. The government should fill up all vacancies immediately, they demanded.

They also asked the Government to take steps to regularise the services of workers employed on a temporary basis. It should provide jobs to the family members of deceased employees on compassionate grounds, they said.

The powers to notify these vacant posts of deputy tahsildar and tahsildar should be decentralised and vested with the respective District Collectors. The posts of Junior Assistant and Assistant in the department should be re-named as Junior Inspector of Revenue and Senior Inspector of Revenue respectively. Risk allowance should be given to the tahsildars and deputy tahsildars. Concerted efforts should be made to prevent political intervention in the functioning of the revenue department. The other demands of the association included enhancing the fuel allowance for the tahsildars and establishment of rest rooms for women officials.
