`Fix floor price for tea leaves'

Udhagamandalam: A meeting of the Executive Committee of the Nilgiris BJP held here on Wednesday lamented that shortage of doctors in Government hospitals in various parts of the district is subjecting the people to considerable hardship.

It resolved to urge the Government to fill the vacancies without delay.

Help tea growers

By another resolution, the meeting asked the State Government to help small tea growers by fixing a floor price of Rs. 15 for a kg of raw tea leaves.

During the run up to the Parliamentary elections, the Nilgiris MP R. Prabhu had promised the growers that a floor price would be fixed. However, so far no action had been taken in this regard.

If the promise was not fulfilled forthwith BJP would organise demonstrations.

The meeting also resolved to take to the streets if steps were not taken on a war footing to improve the Kallar-Kakkanullah stretch of the National Highway 67 and the also the roads in the rural areas.

Party district president J. Raman presided.

Among those participated were State general secretary Salem V. Ramesh, State observer N.K. Krishnamoorthy and former district president Annamalai R. Murugesan.
