Chennai: Students who scored top marks in ‘The Hindu Education Plus — FIITJEE Talent Reward Exam’ were felicitated at a ceremony here on Saturday.
The overall best school awards for various categories are: Chennai north and central zones — Bhavan’s Rajaji Vidyashram; Chennai west zone — Maharishi Vidyamandir; Chennai south zone — P.S. Senior Secondary School; rest of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Andaman and Nicobar islands — Atomic Energy Central School, Anupuram, near Kalpakkam; and Kerala and Lakshwadeep Islands — Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Kozhikode. The principals of the schools were honoured.
Toppers from each zone and in each subject won medals. Among the achievers was Pratyush Nalam, a student of Padma Seshadri Bala Bhavan in Nungambakkam. He won applause for doing very well despite spinal muscular atrophy, a condition caused by loss of motor neurons. The teachers who taught the subject toppers were presented awards and trophies.
FIITJEE is a private institute that trains students for the IIT joint entrance examination. The talent reward examination was conducted on December 2 last year. Students of Classes VII, VIII and IX were given IQ tests apart from tests in Science and Mathematics. Students of Classes X and XI were tested for their IQ as well as their knowledge of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
Ankur Kumar Jain, head of FIITJEE (Tamil Nadu), said several of their students emerged successful in the competitive examination every year.
