Collector V. Rajaraman has called upon all care and protection homes and orphanages for children below 18 years in the district to get themselves registered under the Juvenile Justice (care and protection of children) Act.

In a release, the Collector said that no home or orphanage, whether government aided, private or those run by non-governmental organisation, would be allowed to function without registration and they should approach the District Social Welfare Officer for registration.

Official sources said there were 33 homes and orphanages in the district, including three government-aided homes and one each run by the Social Welfare and Social Defence departments. The homes and orphanages should fulfil minimum standards prescribed under the Act to qualify for registration which would be valid for three years.
