TIRUCHI: The Janata Dal (Secular) has urged the government to ensure adequate supply of fertilizers to the farmers with the commencement of the farming operations.
Shortage of fertilizers is causing much hardship to the farming community in the State the party said that while urging the government to take steps to provide fertilizers on a subsidised rate.
Resolution to this effect was adopted at a meeting of the party’s urban district Youth Wing held at Thottiyam recently.
By another resolution the party wanted to increase the procurement price of paddy to Rs.1,500 per quintal and sugarcane to Rs.1,800 per tonne in the wake of the rising inflation.
It wanted the government to ensure supply quality pesticides to the cooperative stores.
Yet another resolution appealed to the government to construct check dams for every 50 km across river Cauvery to prevent water going waste into the sea.
Construction of check dams would also ensure drinking water supply, besides use for irrigation purposes.
The meeting also wanted the police to take steps to check the activities of rowdy elements in Musiri area.
