Tuticorin: Members of the National Cadet Corps took out a rally here on Thursday as part of a nation-wide ‘Save the girl child’ campaign.

The cadets displayed placards urging the public to make ‘Save the girl child’ campaign a mass movement so as to rid the society of the evil of female foeticide.

“The female foeticide is not only a crime, but also a stigma in the society. Misconceptions, illiteracy and customs prevailing in the society are mainly responsible for this evil”.

Earlier, R Antony, principal of Lasalle Higher Secondary School, Tuticorin, and Lt Colonel Sanil Kumar, Commanding Officer of 3 (TN) Naval NCC Unit and 29 (TN) Independent Company NCC, jointly flagged off the rally, which commenced on the Beach road and culminated at Lasalle HSS.

NCC officers F. Beny Morais, Kumarasamy and A Asok, and Municipal Councillor (Ward 20) S Lakshmi, among others, were present.
