The Principal District and Session Judge, K. Ganesan, inaugurated the Fast-Track Mahila Court here on Wednesday.

The Fast-Track Mahila Court, allocated for the district recently, was set up on the District Court Complex premises in the city.

N. Vasanthaleela assumed charge as the first judge of the Fast-Track Mahila Court in the district on the same day.

She conducted the first hearing in the presence of Collector G. Govindaraj, Superintendent of Police Amit Kumar Singh, Chief Judicial Magistrate G. Narayanan, Judges and Magistrates of other courts, Public Prosecutor for Tirupur district K. N. Subramaniam, Bar Federation of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry state vice-chairman A. Balakumar.

Office-bearers of Tirupur District Court Lawyers Association, Tirupur Bar Association and Tirupur Advocates Association were also present.

R. Manickaraj, joint secretary of Tirupur District Court Lawyers Association, said that the Fast-Track Mahila court in the district would be dealing with the offences against women, charged under various Acts and sections of Indian Penal Code that invite imprisonment of more than three year.

Sources said that the District Court Complex, presently functioning on a rented building, as a makeshift arrangement, would be shifted by next year to the permanent court complex on the site identified on Tirupur-Palladam highway.
