TIRUNELVELI: Revenue Department officials from Tirunelveli, Tuticorin, Kanyakumari and Virudhunagar districts observed fast here on Wednesday pressing various demands, including filling 5,000-odd vacancies in the department.
The protestors said the intervention of politicians in the “smooth functioning” of the department had gone up in the recent past in an “unprecedented” manner which should be curbed immediately.
Collectors should be empowered to release a list of Deputy Tahsildars and Tahsildars every year.
The newly introduced system of outsourcing of land survey and appointing retired surveyors on contract basis for surveying land should be given up immediately.
While the strike period should be considered as ‘working days’, decision on disciplinary proceedings against the revenue officials completed at the earliest. Appointments on compassionate grounds should be made and an advocate could be appointed in the Collectorate to deal with the cases relating to land acquisition.
The State vice-president of the association, Ramkumar, presided over the protest.
