PUDUKOTTAI: Members of the district branch of the Continuing Education Project Co-ordinators Association went on a day’s fast at Thilagar Thidal here on Thursday in support of their nine-part charter of demands.
Addressing the participants on the occasion, district president of the Association M. Venkateswaran pressed the State Government to introduce time scale of pay for the project co-ordinators. Although the co-ordinators had been attached to the Continuing Education or Adult Education programme for the past two decades, their services were yet to be regularised. The abrupt winding up of the Continuing Education project has come as a severe blow to their economic sustenance, he said.
District secretary of the Association M. Veeramuthu said that the Tamil Nadu Teachers’ Recruitment Board should conduct a special recruitment test for the benefit of the co-ordinators.
He also said that the State and Central governments should initiate immediate action for providing assured job opportunities to the co-ordinators. The Centrally-sponsored ‘Jan Siksha Samsthan’ (JSS) scheme should be implemented through the State Government.
Pointing out that the post of librarians at the rural libraries started under the ‘New Anna Marumlarchi Thittam’ in rural areas were yet to be filled up, District Executive Member of the Association G. Sivakumar urged the State Government to recruit the co-ordinators while filling up these posts.
