ERODE: The Agricultural Graduates Consultancy and Service Society (AGCASS) and the Erode District Milk Producers Cooperative Union conducted a training programme on fodder seed production at Veeracholapuram, near Kangeyam, recently. The society president M. S. Duraisamy explained the importance of Cenchrus grass species like Kolukkatai grass and the need to conserve it. The society treasurer, R. Rajagounder explained the cultivation aspects of Cenchrus grass. The Assistant General Manager of Aavin, Mohanan, detailed various varieties of grass. He detailed the methods of sowing seeds for various varieties of grass.

Hundreds of farmers participated in the programme. After the meeting, a Memorandum of Arrangement was signed between the society and the United Nations Office for Project Services financed by the Global Environmental Facility for the development of fodder seeds in the district. It is stated that a Seed Bank, a farmer's society and SHGs will be formed. The president of the Society for Natural Resource Management for Environment Safety, V. P. Balasubramaniam, presided over the programme.
