NAGAPATTINAM: Hundreds of agricultural labourers and small farmers were arrested on Wednesday when they resorted to road rokos in several parts of the district including Nagapttinam, Kilvelur, Sembanarkovil, Keezhaiyur and Sirkazhi asking the Government for immediate disbursal of relief for the crops including pulses that were affected by the recent rains.

The road rokos were organised by the Vivasayigal Sangam and Agricultural Workers Union affiliated to the CPI (M).


A large number of villagers and farmers staged a demonstration in front of the Revenue Divisional Office here on Wednesday demanding the Government to desilt and widen the Cauvery passing through Mayiladuturai.

It was led by Jagaveerapandian, former MLA of Mayiladuturai, and organised by Ayyavayanar farmers association.
