ERODE: Farmers demanding Rs. 300 crore compensation from polluters have decided to file a suit in the Madras High Court in this regard.

This was unanimously resolved at the meeting of the All Farmers Association, All Irrigational Ryots Associations and All Water Source Federations, which was conducted recently at the Tamilaga Vivasayeegal Sangam.

The president of the Erode District Branch of the Tamilaga Vivasayeegal Sangam E.R. Kumarasamy presided.

It was alleged at the meeting that thousands of acres of land had been affected by textile and tanning industrial effluents in Erode district.

Through another resolution, the participants said that because of the discharge of untreated effluent into water sources and land, food production had been affected.

Pollution Control Board personnel should test samples of effluents discharged by the sago industry, paper, textile dyeing and other industries.

Participants expressed opposition to proposal to dump tannery sediments in the SIPCOT, Perundurai area.
