The construction would help them transport their produce
Dharmapuri: Farmers of P. Chettihalli have appealed to the Minister for Information and Publicity and Local Administration K.P. Anbazhagan to initiate steps for construction of a railway underpass at Chettihalli village to transport their produce.
In a petition submitted to the Minister on Tuesday the farmers claimed that they were raising agricultural crops on over 1000 acres in Jogipatti, Kollahalli, Chettihalli, Pethanahalli and Parathur villages located on the western side of the Salem-Bangalore Railway track.
6 km travel
Due to lack of a railway underpass farmers were finding it difficult to transport their produce to the other side.
As a result they had to traverse a distance of six km to transport their produce to the other side of the railway track.
Students cross track
Besides, about 250 students of the A. Mallapuram Higher Secondary School had to cross the track every day to reach their school.
Construction of a railway underpass at P. Chettihalli village near the Salem-Bangalore Railway line would help farmers transport their produce to the other side, they added.
