Urge Govt. to ensure adequate supply
Seek action against erring dyeing units
ERODE: Farmers of Kalingarayan ayacut have asked the State Government to ensure adequate supply of fertilizers.
In a release, the farmers said agriculture activity was proceeding on full swing in the region in the absence ‘complex’ fertilizers. DAP was supplied at a bag an acre.
At this rate, production would be affected, the farmers said. They wanted adequate supply of fertilizers and power supply. There had been instances of farmers not getting power supply for even three hours a day.
They wanted uninterrupted supply for at least 12 hours. The farmers also drew the Government’s attention to the logjam in establishing the Erode turmeric market.
Because of the delay of past two years, farmers have not had an opportunity to sell their products at a place and were forced to look for alternative markets.
The trend should not continue, the farmers said and sought Government’s intervention.
They also sought increased minimum support price for sugarcane and action against erring dyeing and tanning factories that dot the Kalingarayan banks.
The association’s president V. M. Velayudham presided over the meeting.
