ERODE: Farmers affiliated to the Tamizhaga Vivasayeegal Sangam, Erode, on Monday staged a demonstration in front of the Erode Corporation building demanding complete wavier of farm loans. Led by S. Periasamy, district president, the farmers said the Government should come forward to completely waive all farm loans.

The farmers also demanded a minimum support price of Rs. 1,500 for a quintal of paddy, Rs. 4,000 for turmeric, a like sum for tapioca, Rs. 1,500 for a ton of sugarcane, besides Rs. 20 and Rs. 15 for a litre of buffalo and cow milk. They asked the Government to stop pollution in Kalingarayan Canal, Noyyal River and other water bodies in the district. More than 100 farmers participated in the protest.
