Rs. 11.42-lakh assistance disbursed to 217 beneficiaries As many as 22,225 farmers to get identity cards before the end of the current fiscal
Tuticorin: The Minister for Animal Husbandry, P. Geetha Jeevan, launched the Tamil Nadu Agricultural Labourers-Farmers (social security and welfare) Scheme in the district at a function held at South Authoor near here on Thursday.
Ms. Jeevan said that the farmers between the age of 18 and 65 years, who own wetland not exceeding 2.5 acres and dryland not exceeding five acres and engaged in direct cultivation, would be covered under the scheme.
"Every registered member under the scheme would be issued identity cards in a phased manner.
So far, 93,994 cards had been distributed in the district," she said. The remaining beneficiaries, as many as 22,225, would get the same before the end of the current fiscal.
Solatium would be provided to the kin of the registered member who died in accidents, education aid to the children of members, financial assistance for the marriage of either the member or his children and old age pension to the member.
Ms. Jeevan disbursed welfare assistance to the tune of Rs. 11.42 lakh to 217 beneficiaries under various Government schemes.
The Collector, R. Palaniyandi, and senior revenue officials were present.
