The Sriperumbudur police have arrested five persons for manufacturing fake liquor and circulating it through TASMAC wine shop bars.
Disclosing this to reporters at Sriperumbudur on Thursday, Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Kancheepuram Range, M. Ramasubramani, said Sriperumbudur police received a tip-off recently that fake liquor was being manufactured in a house on the outskirts of the town. Subsequently, a combing operation was conducted in the area and fake liquor was found to be manufactured in a house on Chellaperumal Nagar.
The house was taken on rent by G. Ramesh of Tondiarpet, Chennai. He had converted a steel bureau into a mixing tank - to mix water, rectified spirit and colouring agents - with a provision to fill liquor bottles. Bottles were capped, labelled and packed in cartons and stacked nearby.
Ramesh's wife Rashiya Begam, Ibrahim of Tondiarpet, Babu of Mint and TASMAC bar employee at Thamal, near Kancheepuram, Prabhakaran were also arrested, the DIG said.
