The Crime Branch has launched an investigation into the detection of 107 counterfeit currencies in the denomination of Rs. 500 during banking transactions at the Canara Bank branches at Perumanallur and Avinashi.

A case was registered on Wednesday based on a complaint lodged by Canara Bank Chief Manager P.R. Yesodar. The bank officials realised that the notes were fake only when it was taken to the ‘currency chest' of Canara Bank functioning at Coimbatore.
