Fabric of creativity swings visitors into buying mode

Several varieties of handloom silk and cotton saris from many parts of the country besides handicrafts made by artisans of Tamil Nadu and other places have attracted the people in the 27-day exhibition organised by the Tamil Nadu Handicrafts Development Corporation in connection with the Pongal celebrations that began at the Poompuhar showroom here recently. Musical instruments like veena, tambura, nadaswaram were displayed.

K.Chidambaranathan, Manager of the Poompuhar showroom here, said that the exhibition would be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. till January 31 except Sundays.

He said nearly Rs.20 lakh worth of handicrafts and handloom items with prices ranging from Rs.15 to 35,000 were displayed in the exhibition.

Silk and cotton saris produced in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Karnataka, Thanjavur art plates, panchaloha idols, intricately carved images of gods from various types of wood and sandal, temple jewellery and traditional Thanjavur art paintings are displayed, he said.
