To enhance awareness about procedure

Udhagamandalam: As part of its programme to enhance awareness about eye donations, the Indian Red Cross Society, the Nilgiris chapter, arranged for the transfer of a donor’s eyes to Coimbatore on Monday.

According to the Secretary, IRCS, K.Gopal, K .Balayee (50), an inmate of the Saras Trust Old Age Home, Gudalur had donated her eyes.

Shortly after she died on Monday night, her daughter in law S.Indirani had given her approval for the removal of the eyes.

With the help of doctors Amaravathi Rajan and G.P.Hemanth Kumar, the eyes were removed at the Government Headquarters hospital here and sent immediately to the Aravind Eye Hospital, Coimbatore.

Mr.Gopal added that so far about 350 persons including school and college students had submitted eye donation forms to the Indian Red Cross Society.
