Udhagamandalam: Many students of the Kendriya Vidyalaya, Indunagar, got an opportunity to experience the ‘joy of giving’ first hand thanks to an ‘outing with an aim’ organised on Wednesday by their teachers led by the Principal in-charge Lalitha Deepak.

Undeterred by hostile weather the children visited the Rotary Vivekananda School at Theetukkal near here and handed over sports materials and trophies to children hailing from the underprivileged sections of society.

Later they moved to the Smyrna Home here and presented warm clothes to the physically challenged children who are being taken care of there.

Ms. Deepak pointed out that the outing formed part of the ‘Help Somebody Week’ being observed by the students of the Kendriya Vidyalaya.

She told The Hindu that it was to promote value-based education and also enhance awareness about the plight of special children and those belonging to the lower strata of society.

Ms. Deepak expressed the hope that henceforth the necessity of prompting them to set something aside for the ‘children of lesser gods’ will not arise.
