Condemning the poor wages paid to ex-servicemen during the April 24 polling, the Thanjavur District Ex-Servicemen League has decided against participating in poll-related works in future.

In a statement issued here on Wednesday, Col (retired) C.T.Arasu, president of the league, said that wages provided to ex-servicemen involved in poll works was much lower compared to the 2011 Assembly elections.

The ex-service personnel refused to receive the pay and staged agitations in various parts of the State to bring their grievance to the notice of officials.

The Election Commission officials had clarified that wages for Assembly elections was paid by the State government and for Lok Sabha polls, a common pay is fixed by the Centre across the country. The Election Commission has no power to hike the pay, they said.
