TIRUNELVELI: The Government exhibition, which was conducted here for 45 days since July 7, has earned Rs.14.82-lakh revenue to the exchequer through the entrance fee collected from visitors.

Of the 3,22,305 visitors, 2,58,027 were adults and 64,278 children. Twenty-two government departments such as police, information and public relations, rural development, social welfare, tourism, aavin, small savings, siddha medicine, agriculture, PWD, TWAD etc. had established their stalls on the sprawling ‘Exhibition Grounds’ to popularise government programmes, especially welfare schemes.

Through the sale of milk products, ‘Aavin’ earned Rs. 3 lakh and the sale of self-help group products touched Rs. 86,862. Stalls put-up by the Department of Police and Rural Development bagged the first and second prizes respectively while the Departments of Agriculture, Cooperative and Siddha Medicine shared the third spot. Special prizes were given to TWAD Board and the Tirunelveli Corporation.

The Collector, G. Prakash, distributed the prizes at the valedictory function held here on Wednesday in the presence of the Deputy Director (Exhibitions), J. Manikumar.
