Udhagamandalam: The Union Minister of Communication and Information Technology, A. Raja has asked the Union Minister of Highways and Surface Transport, Kamal Nath, to expedite the work on making the Kangeyampalayam-Mettupalayam road a four lane highway. In a letter sent to the Union Minister, Mr. Raja said that under the National Highways Development Scheme it is proposed to upgrade the 54-km stretch. Pointing out that due to the congestion caused by the rising number of vehicles on the Coimbatore-Mettupalayam road accidents are increasing, he said that if the Kangeyampalayam-Mettupalayam road is upgraded without delay, the congestion can be reduced and accidents averted. He requested Mr. Kamal Nath to upgrade the Puliampatti-Bhavani Sagar-Bannari road in Erode district.
