Exhibition stalls and live demonstration of various handicrafts from across the country can be found at the Gandhi Shilp Bazaar 2011, located at the Port Premises. This exhibition-cum-sale was inaugurated on August 19 and will continue for till August 28.

The exhibition is open on all days between 10 am and 8 pm and entry is free for visitors.

The Gandhi Shilp Bazaar is a joint venture between the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts) Ministry of Textiles, Government of India and the Puducherry Tourism Development Corporation Limited.

The aim of the exhibition is to promote artisans from around the country, according to an official from the development commissioners' office.

For many of these artisans, their entire village depends on the revenue from these exhibitions, so the government is trying to support them, the official said.

There are a number of handicrafts on display including wooden crafts, leather work, jewellery, fabrics and clothing.
