RAMANATHAPURAM: Additional Chief Secretary and Commissioner for Development AR. Sellamuthu has directed the district administration to evolve new strategies to tap untapped business opportunities for self-help groups (SHG).

Reacting to demands made by the representatives of women federations who attended a special meeting at the Collectorate here on Saturday, he said that there were several opportunities such as ornamental fish culture, preparing food items for ornamental fishes, nutrient products, and manufacturing decorative items by using sea- based natural products.

“List Opportunities”

He asked the Collector and other officials to take steps to list the opportunities and impart training to SHG members.

Mr. Sellamuthu, who presided over the meeting, reviewed the women development programmes being undertaken in the district.

He directed the officials to closely monitor the functioning of SHGs and the progress made by them.

Collector T.N. Hariharan, District Revenue Officer K. Balasubramaniam, and Project Officer of District Rural Development Agency K. Sumathi took part in the meeting.
