To continue till all encroachments are removed

VALPARAI: In the wake of rain water entering houses at low-lying areas in Valparai because of encroachments, revenue authorities on Friday began a massive drive to evict encroachers.

In the presence of Coimbatore Collector Neeraj Mittal, Pollachi Sub-Collector Vijay Pingale and Kovai Thangam, MLA, 12 huts constructed under the bridge in Vazhaithottam in Valparai town were removedby the authorities.

The houses were blocking free flow of water in the Nadumalai River that passes through Valparai town. The revenue authorities removed plantations in 24 cents, near the bridge across the river, encroached by a private tea estate.

Mr. Pingale said all the 12 families have been accommodated in a school building and soon they would be given alternative sites. The drive against encroachment, which is long overdue, was being carried out as directed by Madras High Court, he said.

The drive would continue till all the encroachments along the river was removed.
