VELLORE: The Principal District and Sessions Judge, Vellore, P. Ramakrishnan, inaugurated an evening court at the Integrated Courts Complex here on Wednesday.

It will be presided over by four judicial officers on rotation and function from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on all working days. It will hear petty offences booked by all police stations in and around Vellore, which come under the jurisdiction of the Judicial Magistrate (JM)-1 Vellore, JM-3 Vellore, JM-4 Vellore and JM-5 Vellore. It will function in the court hall of the JM-2 Vellore and be assisted by a head clerk, a typist and an office assistant.

Mr. Justice Ramakrishnan said the evening court would function as a super fast track court. The Chief Judicial Magistrate, Vellore, D. Arulraj, said the evening court would obviate the need for the accused and the policemen waiting in the court from morning to evening as petty cases are taken up by the Judicial Magistrate courts concerned only in the afternoon.

The court would also help in reducing the backlog of cases, he added.

The Judge of Labour Court, Solaimalai, and the Judge of the fast track court, Panneerselvam, spoke.
