The Department of Tamil, Thiruvalluvar University, Vellore, is organising a seminar on the topic, ‘Solutions through Thirukkural for the Present Day Problems’ at the university campus in Serkadu from March 26 to 28.
In a release, the Vice-Chancellor and Registrar of the University have invited essays from the public for presentation at the seminar. Essays should be sent in A4 size paper (one side), subject to a maximum of 10 pages. They should not be general essays or those written for public speeches.
The seminar is an attempt to undertake research on whether Thirukkural has been a source of guidance for forging interpersonal and social relationships, politics and business activities. Persons who have benefited by Thirukkural can share their experiences in the form of essays. One can also write an essay on the experience of others who have benefited by Thirukkural. Essays can be on the broad headings, ‘kol solludhal’ (blaming), ‘poramai’ (jealousy), ‘sombal’ (laziness), ‘mudhiyor penal’ (care of the elderly), ‘innadha kooral’ (talking ill of others), ‘nanri marathal’ (ungratefulness), ‘poimai’ (lying) and ‘ariyamai’ (ignorance).
Interested persons should send the essays to the Head of the Department of Tamil, Thiruvalluvar University, Serkadu, Katpadi Taluk, Vellore District, before March 23.
