Stolen jewellery recovered

The Erode district police have registered 93 per cent success in recovering stolen jewellery during this calendar year.

The district police were able to recover 603 out of 661 sovereigns of gold jewellery reported stolen in various police stations. Inspector General of Police S. Davidson Devasirvatham handed over the recovered jewellery to the owners on Sunday in the presence of Superintendent of Police R. Ponni.

In terms of declining number of cases, Erode district was in the forefront among the eight districts in the West Zone.

The number of cases registered was 583 in 2011, 494 in 2012, and 474 in 2013, the IG said.

Out of the 46 murder cases registered during the year, the accused were arrested in 45 cases. A total of 13,701 drunken driving cases were registered in 2013. In 933 cases, recommendation was made for cancelling licences, he added.-Special Correspondent.
