ERODE: The Special Grade Erode Municipality will construct two commercial complexes to accommodate shops and business establishments in Erode. The Municipal Town Elementary School located near the old clock tower area was closed some years back and the place is now converted to a parking stand.

The Erode Municipal Commissioner, K.R. Selvaraj, has said that the school building was in dilapidated condition. It would be demolished and a commercial complex would be built at a cost of Rs. 1.80 crore. Already tenders were floated.

Similarly, the Municipal Adbul Gani Market was now functioning near the Paneerselvam Park. Thousands of shops were functioning there. The municipal administration has decided to demolish the building and construct a multi-storeyed building at a cost of more than Rs. 5 crore, he said.

Mr. Selvaraj said that after its construction all the textile retail shops would get more space. Vehicle parking facilities will also be provided there.

The Commissioner said the municipal administration has decided to renovate the Municipal Nethaji market. Sixty shops would be constructed at a cost of Rs. 60 lakh to locate roadside vendors.
