It will be the third dog inducted for crime detection duty
A 45-day-old Doberman puppy has been inducted into the police dog squad in Erode district to assist the members of the police force in crime detection work.
The puppy, named Vaidehi, would be replacing Tiger, of German Shepherd breed, that has been retired after eight years of service, according to sources here.
After the puppy gets beyond the age of four months, it would be sent to Coimbatore for training for six months.
The Doberman puppy would be initiated into crime detection duty, police sources said.
Vaidehi will be the third dog to be utilised for crime detection duty.
Two other dogs, Vicky and Rocky of Labrador and Doberman breeds respectively, are already in the crime department.
Four dogs are utilised for police duty in all in the Erode district.
The other dog is Thamarai of German Shepherd breed, utilised for detection of explosives.
