Ranks third in the State in the students' performance; girls outshine boys

Erode district was ranked third in the State in the performance of students in the Class X examination, for which results were declared by the Directorate of Government Examinations on Friday. The district posted an impressive overall pass percentage of 95.36 with 13 students securing State ranks.

K.R. Pon Sivashankari of Erode Hindu Kalvi Nilayam School and S. Anusha of Kongu Vellalar Matriculation HSS from the district shared the first rank with seven others in the State by scoring 498 marks each.

G. Muralikrishnan from Erode Hindu Kalvi Nilayam, M.V. Pavethra from Kongu Vellalar Matriculation HSS, Chennimalai, and T. K. Srimathi from Sagar Vidyabhavan bagged the State second rank by securing 497 marks each.

A total of eight students won the State third rank with total marks of 496 each – J. Kaushick, D. Swathika, M. Vishwa Priya, all from Erode Hindu Kalvi Nilayam, V. Jayasurya from Saradha Matriculation School, Modachur, V.S. Mounisha from BVB Matriculation HSS, B. Nivedha from Navarasam MHSS, R. Nivethitha from Sri Venkateshwara Vidyalaya Matriculation School, M.S. Rajkumar from Sri Sathya Sai Matriculation School.

Out of the 31,041 students who appeared for the examination, 29,601 students emerged successful in the district, taking the pass percentage to 95.36. The district posted an overall pass percentage of 94.58 in 2011-12.

Girls outshone boys this year too. The pass percentage of the girls was 96.96, while the boys managed to post 93.88 per cent.

A total of 159 schools including 36 government schools, two Adi Dravidar and tribal Welfare schools and a municipal school registered cent percent pass this year. Last year, 140 schools posted a 100 per cent pass.

The district also witnessed a sharp rise in the number of students who secured a centum in different subjects. A total of 2,009 students scored centum in science. Last year only 563 students managed to secure centum in the subject.

A little over 1,400 students scored centum in mathematics, 836 students in social science and four students in English. None of the students scored centum in Tamil.

Collector V.K. Shanmugam honoured the toppers in the presence of Chief Educational Officer Sri Devi .
