Six years after Erode City Corporation was created, new posts have not yet been sanctioned. This anomaly affected promotional avenues, employees complain.
Even for the few posts created in technical areas, existing employees of the Corporation could not be promoted due to administrative shortcomings. Employees of government departments were being appointed to the new posts on deputation, denying career progression to the existing staff, according to representatives of employees’ associations.
There was an in-depth discussion on this issue at a recent meeting of the coordination committee of all employees’ associations. Speakers at the meeting lamented that the state of affairs was causing mental agony and loss to the employees.
When employees associations expressed reservations following the formation of the Salem, Tiruchi and Tirunelveli Corporations, the Government appointed a high-level committee to get their grievances redressed. A similar approach must be adopted to remove the anomalies in promotion in the Erode Corporation. The promotions must be granted with retrospective effect, V. Radhakrishnan, president of the Coordination Committee said. The employees in Erode Corporation have also been affected due to denial of city compensatory allowance for the last six years, Mr. Radhakrishnan who was elected as the president of the Coordination Committee during the meeting said. The other office-bearers of the Coordination Committee were S. Somasundara, M.S. Mohamed Ismail and V. Rajan - vice presidents, R. Kumaravel - secretary, P. Selvaraj, K. Kumaresan and B. Robert Anthoniraj - joint secretaries, and P. Sivakumar - treasurer.
