Flower shows differ from country to country, says Belgium Ambassador to India
Ambassador and his wife interact with children
He is enthralled by ride on Nilgiri Mountain Railway
Udhagamandalam: The enthusiasm of the people who thronged the Government Botanical Garden here on Sunday to witness the final day of the 113th flower show thrilled the Belgium Ambassador to India Jean M. Deboutte.
Speaking to ‘The Hindu’ after going round the show, he opined that the enthusiasm alone was enough to help the popularity of the show grow.
Replying to a query, he said that the display was formidable and added that flower shows differed from country to country.
In Brussels, begonias were famous and many flower shows were organised.
When asked to record his impressions about the other attractions he had seen here, the Ambassador said that a ride on the Nilgiri Mountain Railway (NMR) and the arrangements made by the railway authorities had made him very happy.
Pointing out that it was for the first time he was travelling by such a mountain train, he said that he was looking forward to travelling by similar trains in the North.
The Ambassador and his wife who were here as guests of A.C. Muthiah, Honorary Consul for Belgium in Chennai, also visited the Saint Stephen’s Church, the Rose Garden and the Lawrence School at Lovedale where he spent some time interacting with the children from various parts of the country.
