Noon meal organisers must ensure a safe food and hygienic environment for children.

Cleanliness must be the watchword, Collector S. Jayandhi instructed the noon meal organisers and block-level monitoring officials at a review meet on noon meal safety held here on Tuesday.

The meet comes in the wake of Bihar noon meal fiasco deaths.

Ms. Jayandhi directed the noon meal organisers to rinse vegetables thoroughly, get quality ingredients, and watch out for expiry date of cooking medium such as oil. Most importantly, they should use clean water for cooking.

The Collector made a surprise inspection of a noon meal centre at Karudayampalayam and directed the organiser and the cook to ensure safety of children.
