All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam general secretary Jayalalithaa on Wednesday urged Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi to ensure early punishment for those behind the murder of two children in Coimbatore last week.

Referring to the kidnap of a 13-year-old school boy in Chennai, she expressed concern over reports of the growing trend in such crimes.

In another statement, Communist Party of India (Marxist) State secretary G. Ramakrishnan said the two incidents had caused great anxiety to parents.

The government should see to it that trials against culprits were carried out expeditiously and the guilty given stringent punishment.
