CHENNAI: English translations of 12 books of Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi will be launched at a function to be held at the University of Madras on Monday.
The names of the books and the team that worked on them were announced at a media conference here on Saturday.
Committee of professors
The Tamil books were translated by a committee, comprising professors of Bharathiar University and experts from different fields, with Macmillan as the publishers.
10 months to complete
According to C. Swaminathan, Vice-Chancellor, Bharathiar University, it took the members around 10 months to complete the translation work.
The programme on Monday will be attended by Vice-President M. Hamid Ansari, Governor Surjit Singh Barnala, Mr. Karunanidhi and Union Ministers Veerappa Moily and Vayalar Ravi.
The books are Tolkappiya Poonga (The Flower Garden of Tolkappiyam); Kaala Pezhaiyum Kavidhai Saviyum (The Treasure Trove of Time and the Verse Key); Kavidhai Mazhai – I, II, III (Shower of Poetry – Volume I, II and III; Thenpaandi Singam (Thenpaandi Singam); Paayum Puli Pandaraka Vanniyan (Pandaraka Vanniyan – The Leaping Tiger); Ponnar Sankar (Ponnar Sankar); Muthu Kulial (Reflections); Paraasakthi & Manohara (Paraasakthi & Manohara); Poompuhar & Oranga Nadagangal (Tale of the Anklet and One Act Plays); and Kalaignarin Siru Kadhaigal (As is in the Original).
