Udhagamandalam: The eighth district conference of the Tamil Nadu Government Employees Association, which concluded here on Saturday, has decided to ask the government to take effective steps to tackle stray dog menace in various parts of the district.
In another resolution, the association demanded measures to repair the Mettupalayam-Gudalur road.
While requesting the government to treat the association as a recognised body, they wanted all the vacancies in various government offices filled up. The proposed new pension scheme should be shelved. Concerted efforts should be made to check inflation.
The government should evolve ways to get remunerative prices round the year for the produce of the small tea growers of the district. Time scale should be fixed for all the Noon Meal Programme employees. Special buses should be pressed into service between Coimbatore and Ooty and Coonoor and Ooty.
Public conveniences should be provided near the Collectorate complex and the taluk office here. Among those who participated were the district president of the association, P. Diwakaran, the secretary, R. Kumar, and the district secretary, CITU, L. Thiagarajan.
As part of the conference hundreds of government employees took out a rally through the main roads of the town notwithstanding a steady drizzle.
