15.7 cents of land was encroached upon

Encroachments for a distance of almost half a kilometre on the State Highway at Paralachi, 30 km from here, were removed on Wednesday.

Following complaints that encroachments were hindering traffic flow, especially the movement of buses and lorries, Collector T.N.Hariharan ordered their removal.

Officials of the Revenue Department, State Highway Department and the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (Tangedco) launched the drive in the presence of a police team comprising three sub-inspectors and 10 constables.

The Tahsildar, Chandrasekaran, assisted by Deputy Tahsildars Ramachandran and Senthilveli, supervised the encroachment removal exercise on the road leading to Sayalgudi.

A total 53 entities had encroached upon 15.7 cents of land for years. The encroachments included a liquor shop run by Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation (TASMAC), small restaurants, vegetable shops, telephone booths and extended portions of houses.
