Some people are doing business even in waiting shed

ERODE: Though the municipal administration has been removing encroachments in the town periodically, encroachers do not seem to be concerned about it. They continue their business in the same place.

Erode Municipal Bus Stand bears the brunt of the encroachers. The municipality has already leased out shops in the bus stand and it is collecting rent for the allotted space. But the shopkeepers extend their shop till the pathway making it difficult for the people to walk.

Some people are doing business even in the waiting shed.

Unhygienic

Besides over 50 handcarts sell `Kammamkuuz' (kambu gruel) inside the bus stand. Almost all of them are parked very near to the toilet selling the gruel and also pickle in an unhygienic manner.

From 6 p.m. to late in the night, some mobile eateries do business near the bus stand. They leave the waste on the road itself creating nuisance to those visiting the bus stand.

Difficult for motorists

In the ever-crowded old clock tower area, RKV Road, Jinnah Street and Agraharam Street where hundreds of textile and grocery shops are located, traders have encroached upon the road margins too.

Motorists find it very difficult to use the road.

Municipal officials say that they are making all efforts to remove the encroachments. But some influential persons are supporting the encroachers and this has hampered their work.
