Eleven persons were injured in a clash between two groups at Pitchampatti village of Kambikodi Panchayat in Kariapatti taluk on Thursday. According to police sources, a common path for a stretch of 300 metres, used by the villagers, was fenced by a group led by Rajangam (55) following a previous enmity that cropped up during the local body elections. A peace committee meeting was held but no compromise could be reached and the matter was pending in the court.

Meanwhile, the other group led by P. Marisamy (28) tried to clear the path leading to a clash. Eleven persons suffered severe injuries and were shifted to the Government Rajaji Hospital in Madurai for treatment. Police have arrested 11 persons and registered cases against 39 persons.
